Mysterious harp music is heard off the Santa Fe Plaza in the middle of the night. The ghost of a young bride who was tragically killed on her wedding night is frequently seen at a downtown hotel. And the spirit of a woman from Santa Fe high society, wracked with grief over the death of her youngest child, reportedly still roams the mansion where she lived. These are a few of the stories of ghosts and the paranormal that have arisen in Santa Fe over its more than 400-year history.
This tour will explore many of the legends of hauntings around downtown Santa Fe. Included in the tour are:
- La Fonda Hotel, where several ghosts have been reported, including a judge murdered in another hotel that previously stood at the location;
- The Santa Fe Plaza, a where Spanish soldier killed in battle and even a notorious Wild West outlaw are said to roam the streets at night;
- The Barrio de Analco, where a headless horseman is said to ride the streets looking for his missing head;
- The Santa Fe River where a wailing woman is said to snatch away unsuspecting children;
- An old hospital where many strange sites have been reported over the decades;
- La Posada Hotel where Santa Fe’s most famous ghost, Julie Staab, is said to still wandered the halls of what used to be her family home, and much more.
